| 2010 SHOT Show by Dave Langston What a show this was! It had all the outdoor stars and more. The 2010 SHOT Show also gave me some of the best interviews I have had to date. The show was held at the Sands Hotel in the convention center and was loaded with manufacturers from across the country showing their new products ready for the stores this spring, summer and fall. And it brought out the stars. Ted Nugent, Steven Segal, Shawn Michaels of the WWE, MLB star Chipper Jones, Michael Wadell of the “Bone Collector” series, UFC Champion Brock Lesnar and many more attended and I had a chance to talk with them and conduct interviews for my show. What more can be said about Ted Nugent. He is a larger than life celebrity not only taking the Rock-n- Roll world by storm but also the entire hunting community. Ted and I never talked about his show or mine we talked about the outdoors and the wolves in Idaho. We had the crowd backed up taking pictures and waiting for autographs as we talked. Ted was passionate about this subject and I could see this would be a tremendous interview. Ted had no problem showing his feelings towards this critter. I asked him what he thought Idaho and Montana should do about the wolf problem and Ted replied that we only need about a dozen wolves and the rest should be made into fur coats. He told Idahoans that we should not give up the fight and keep these animals in check since nobody else will. “Who else will save the elk and deer herds from these monsters?” said Nugent. “Hunters from the west, uncle Ted wants you to know that these animals need to be shot, trapped or whatever it takes to keep the population at about 12 wolves,” he added with a snarl. “I love the wild and that is why my show is called “Spirit of the Wild” because I want, no, I crave being in the outdoors and hunting in my backyard. It is my closeness to God the creator and I love it,” Nugent added. We talked for more than 10 minutes while the crowd grew and Ted and I kept on going. It was a remarkable interview and a pleasure to talk with him. If you want to see the interview you can look me up on www. Facebook.com where the RAW footage is uploaded. Also you can become a fan of the Western States Sportsman to see all the interviews on www.FaceBook.com. Next we talked to Chuck Buck who owns and operates the world famous BUCK knife company that many of you own and use in the field. BUCK knife is operated out of Post Falls, Idaho and makes a superb knife. It is an Idaho company that employs over 300 Idahoans. It was a pleasure talking to Chuck who is a true American legend. BUCK also sponsors Jim Shockey and many more outdoor show celebrities you see on television. As I headed down the isle with our cameraman we ran into Shawn Michaels of the WWE better known as half of Degeneration X and also Steven Segal. Shawn was there for hunting promotional business and Steve was visiting the Tactical side for law enforcement. He has a show on cable the “Law Man” seen on cable television We were invited to the Leatherman party where they introduced a new multi tool that will come out this spring. I can’t tell you what it is but I can say that it is a tool that has everything a gun owner could ever want and also for military purposes. Next we talked to another American Legend, fellow writer and a friend of mine Jim Zumbo. We discussed how his new show is fairing on the Outdoor Channel. He is proud and humbled that he takes mentally and physically wounded soldiers out on hunts and fishing trips during the airing of his shows. Keep up the good work Jim. While we were interviewing another manufacturer Michael Wadell from the very popular “Bone Collector” series stopped and said hi to me. I told Michael I wanted do an interview for our upcoming show also after we talked, He obliged and we set up the cameras. “You know Dave, no matter how popular my show becomes we all would not be here today in this building if it was not for the outdoorsman and his family. In fact, the sportsmen of this country take care of the game and the habitat not you or I, they are the heroes and my show reflects just that,” said Wadell. “The Outdoors is about being with the ones you love and care about, it is a special place I love to share with everyone I care about,” he added. You know Michael, you are right. I have also preached to my readers and viewers that this is what being in the wild is all about. You could not have said it better my friend. |
